GACL dispatches the first consignment of Food Grade Phosphoric Acid

Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) dispatched the first consignment of Food Grade
Phosphoric Acid (85%) in the virtual presence of Shri Swaroop P. IAS, Managing Director of GACL,
and other senior executives on December 25, 2023, from GACL Dahej Complex.
In a strategic move to reduce the nation’s dependence on imported Purified Phosphoric Acid, GACL
established a state-of-the-art plant in Dahej with a capacity of 33,870 MTA. Purified Phosphoric Acid,
a critical chemical with applications in various industries, is currently imported at a substantial
volume of 35,000 MTA annually. GACL has now achieved Food Grade Quality of Phosphoric Acid in
the aforementioned plant.
The said Purified Phosphoric Acid Plant will continue to produce both, Purified Phosphoric Acid and
Food Grade Phosphoric Acid to cater to the needs of customers. This is one more step towards
“Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” since the production of Food Grade Phosphoric Acid
would reduce dependence on imports as it has vital applications in Sugar Refining, Edible Oil
Refining, Beverages, etc.
Talking more, Shri Swaroop P. IAS informed, that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
(FSSAI) has granted a significant license to GACL under the FSS Act, 2006, solidifying GACL’s position
as one of the most reliable and leading manufacturers of Food Grade Phosphoric Acid (85%) in the
chemical industry.
With this manufacturing facility, GACL aims to contribute significantly to the reduction of the current
annual import of 35,000 MTA of Purified Phosphoric Acid, showcasing GACL’s commitment to
domestic production aligning with India’s strategic goal of self-sufficiency in key industrial chemicals.
With the latest Food Grade Phosphoric Acid initiative, GACL is not only contributing to the chemical
industry’s growth but is also aligning with the national objective of reducing dependency on
imported chemicals, promoting the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.
